Hikikomori Italia
Italy
Show more details
Hikikomori Italia ETS is an association founded in 2017 by Hikikomori Italia Genitori Onlus, the Italian national association dedicated to supporting parents of young people experiencing voluntary social withdrawal. The Association aims to counteract and reduce voluntary social isolation (hikikomori syndrome) and all potentially related mental health issues (such as social phobia, school dropout, dependency on new technologies, and anxious-depressive syndromes) through informational and awareness-raising initiatives, direct support, counselling, and training.
Associazione Hikikomori Italia was founded with the specific aim of creating a national network of professionals and organizations interested in the issue of chronic voluntary social withdrawal among young people. The association operates throughout the country and benefits from the collaboration of approximately 60 affiliated psychologists (who are continuously trained internally), who support individuals in the challenging task of countering social withdrawal through an approach based on the social and multifactorial origins of the phenomenon — a phenomenon that today affects over 100,000 young people in Italy, in a context marked by insufficient political and institutional engagement in recognizing and addressing the issue. Furthermore, we offer free psychological support to withdrawn youngsters who wish to break out of isolation. Approximately 600 parents participate in the activities of Hikikomori Italia ETS.
